Background
This book used text co-written by Lou Anders, Larry Nemecek, and Ian Spelling for the British publication, Star Trek Monthly. Anders and Nemecek compiled information on the various designs and other behind-the-scenes work, while Spelling worked on the actors' profiles.
As the buzz surrounding the film increased, Star Trek Monthly's publisher, Titan Magazines, opted to collect the works, along with photos and design sketches, and compile them into a book. The publisher chose Anders to edit the book over Nemecek since Anders had not yet received a book credit while Nemecek already had two.
