Alternatively, some fan circles speculate that the new color footage was simply colorized and those that believe argue for instance, that if it were a true color print that was recently located, why wasn't that just aired instead of using spliced footage from "The Menagerie" also in the episode? Fans have stated that the differences, for example, in the voice of the Keeper, which flips back and forth through the episode from the original Malachi Throne voice to the higher pitch for the Keeper from the Menagerie is evidence for a simple colorization of the original black and white footage.
