The Void schematic — A schematic of the Void

The Void was a region of enclosed space near the border of the Beta Quadrant and the Delta Quadrant. It had an outer circumference of nine light years.

There were well over 150 ships inside, with no stars, planets, gases or stellar bodies of any kind. However, there was a species that claimed to be native to the void. Fantome was one member of that species.

Supplies that kept ships running, such as food stores, dilithium, and one of the more common supplies, deuterium, were impossible to find in the void, unless a ship pirated other ships, usually as they were first pulled into the void.

In 2377, the USS Voyager was pulled into the Void. Although told that there was no escape, Seven of Nine found that using Borg fractal algorithms, 'funnels' could be found within the void, which, if entered at the right time at at least warp 8.2, would pull a vessel out of the void.

Voyager had to form an alliance with the Hierarchy, the Nygeans and another ship already trapped to get the collective resources to escape. (VOY: "The Void")
