A Tiberian bat was a blind, winged mammal that, much like the vampire bat native to Earth, bit its prey on the neck to drink its blood.

As a respectful insult, Midshipman 1st Class Peter Preston told Admiral Kirk that if he couldn't see that the Enterprise had the best engine room in all of Starfleet, then he was "as blind as a Tiberian bat." (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan)

During the investigation into the assassination of Klingon High Council Chancellor Gorkon, Spock surmised that due to the difficulty in disposing of the gravity boots used in the murder, the boots would "cling to the killer's necks like a pair of Tiberian bats." (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)
