Thomas "Tommy" Gormley (born 3 May 1968; age 55) is a Scottish assistant director and producer who worked as first assistant director for J.J. Abrams on Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness. He was also credited as co-producer on Into Darkness.

A native of Glasgow, Scotland, [1] Gormley began his career as an assistant director on British made-for-TV movies and independent films. His first major studio film was The Browning Version (1994), which was distributed in the United States by Paramount Pictures. The first film he worked on as first assistant director was 1996's The Leading Man, whose cast included David Warner.

His first American production (although it was filmed in Ireland) was The Boxer (1997). He then worked as 1st AD on the British-made, Academy Award-nominated 1998 historical drama Elizabeth. His subsequent 1st AD credits include the films Angela's Ashes (1999), The Tailor of Panama (2001), Paramount's The Four Feathers (2002), Veronica Guerin (2003), and The Phantom of the Opera (2004).

Gormley was Jonathan Frakes' 1st AD on Thunderbirds. He was also 1st AD on the acclaimed HBO series Rome, for which he shared a Director's Guild of America (DGA) Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a primetime dramatic series. Gormley's other credits as 1st AD include Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007), Inkheart (2008), 2012 (2009, with John Billingsley, Osric Chau, and Stephen McHattie), and John Carter (2012). He was also 1st AD for the second unit of The Golden Compass (2007).

Gormley has worked with J.J. Abrams on a large number of projects. He served as first assistant director to Abrams on Mission: Impossible III (2006, co-starring Simon Pegg, written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, and photographed by Dan Mindel), Super 8 (2011, with Bruce Greenwood and Michael Giacchino), Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015, with Simon Pegg, Greg Grunberg, and Gerald W. Abrams), and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019, with Greg Grunberg). He also worked as co-producer on Super 8 and The Force Awakens and as executive producer on The Rise of Skywalker.

Gormley also directed a 2012 episode of Abrams, Kurtzman and Orci's science fiction series Fringe, starring John Noble. This is his only directing credit to date. Gormley is the owner of the production company Little White Rose Films Inc.

More recently, Gormley was the first assistant director on Wonder Woman (2017, starring Chris Pine) and Wonder Woman 2084 (2020, again starring Chris Pine, with Kelvin Yu and Jessie Graff), as well as Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011), Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015), Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018), and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (2023), all of which co-starred Simon Pegg.

Because of his Scottish nationality, Gormley was able to advise Simon Pegg on his accent when playing Montgomery Scott.
