Tonya Chianis is an award winning dancer, singer, author, and actress who played the holographic fire sculptor in the Star Trek: The Next Generation fifth season episode "Cost of Living" in 1992. She filmed her scene on Thursday 13 February 1992 on Paramount Stage 16.
Chianis is a working Middle Eastern belly dance performer, choreographer, and master teacher. She, with her daughter Atlantis, are the most highly awarded mother-daughter dance duo. They have won many prestigious international awards for work in the field. Chianis is the producer and creator of the most highly respected events of their kind the Belly Dancer of the Universe Competition and Tonya's Original Belly Dance Showcases. An in demand vocalist and MC, she is also a costume designer, mixing ethnic design with las vegas style and flair. Chianis wrote the book "Insights and Inspirations for Dancers" in 1998, and is a licensed practitioner of religious science. Chianis is married to Andreas Chianis, a Greek clarinetist and bouzouki player. She has released over 100 dance DVDs and videos and also music CDs which features the vocals of Tonya Chianis and the skills of her husband Andreas. She is also the president of the Middle Eastern Culture and Dance Association (MECDA); Beach Cities chapter. "Innovation not immitation " is her motto.
