The transwarp factor setting displayed on the transwarp computer of the Excelsior

Transwarp factor was the unit of speed used in the Federation transwarp drive design. It was used as all speeds were designed to be available for the starship. (Star Trek III: The Search for Spock) The normal limitations of warp speeds did not apply to the transwarp variables. (TNG: "Descent")

The term "transwarp factor" was not mentioned in dialogue, but was seen on the display screen of the transwarp computer on the USS Excelsior. It is not clear if the transwarp factor scale refers to the change to the so-called "TNG scale" where warp 10 is a reference to infinite speed.
