The USS Charleston (NCC-42285) was a Federation Excelsior-class starship operated by Starfleet.

In early 2368, the Charleston was part of the task force that blockaded the Klingon-Romulan border during the Klingon Civil War. Charleston was positioned near the USS Tian An Men, USS Hornet, and USS Merrimac. The location of the ship in the grid was labeled with the ship's name and registry. (TNG: "Redemption II", okudagram)

In 2369, the Charleston was named on the chart Sector Ipai Relay Log - Relay Message Flow 1293 in Relay Station 47 Ops. This ship sent a message on Starfleet Commnet Seven via secure channel. The ship's next mission was a deep space exploration mission of Sector 22855. (TNG: "Aquiel", production art)

The class and registry were derived from the chart in "Brothers".
