The USS Constantinople (NCC-43622) was a Federation colony ship that was in service with Starfleet in the mid-24th century. In 2365, this starship was commanded by Captain Richard James.

In 2365, the Constantinople suffered a major hull breach while transporting 2,012 colonists near the planet Gravesworld. Forty-six of her people suffered injuries, mostly minor. A Starfleet officer aboard the Constantinople sent out this distress call, "Mayday. This is the USS Constantinople. The outer hull is breached and environmental systems compromised." The USS Enterprise-D responded to the transport's distress call, and was able to help facilitate necessary repairs to the ship, as well as provide her with the required medical supplies. Later that year, the Constantinople was on special assignment for Terraform Command. (TNG: "The Measure Of A Man", display graphic)

Background

The Starfleet officer aboard the ship was voiced by an unknown actor. Captain Jean-Luc Picard, in his log, described the Constantinople as a liner.

Constantinople was listed, with other starships, on the Starship Deploy Status seen on Starbase 173. Information on the registry, the captain, and its assignment for Terraform Command were derived from this chart.

The Star Trek Encyclopedia described this vessel as an Istanbul-class starship, with a registry number of NCC-34852, adding that it was named for the Turkish city also known as Istanbul.

An early draft of the script identified this vessel as the Mary Rogers.
