The USS Crazy Horse was a Federation Excelsior-class starship that was in service with Starfleet in the mid-24th century.

In late 2369, Vice Admiral Nechayev mobilized a fleet consisting of Crazy Horse and fourteen other ships with the stated aim of defending Federation colonies from an anticipated second Borg invasion. The ships were divided into five task forces with the USS Gorkon as her flagship. Crazy Horse was assigned to task force three under the command of Captain Jean-Luc Picard. For the duration of the task force's existence, the Crazy Horse would serve alongside the USS Agamemnon and the USS Enterprise-D. (TNG: "Descent")

A year later, the Crazy Horse transported Admiral Erik Pressman to rendezvous with the Enterprise. (TNG: "The Pegasus")

The Crazy Horse was named for Chief Crazy Horse of the Oglala Sioux tribe, who resisted American takeover of his people's lands in the 1870s. (Star Trek Encyclopedia) The USS Lakota, another Excelsior-class ship, was named after Crazy Horse's tribe; two other Excelsior-class vessels, the USS Malinche and USS Tecumseh, are also named after indigenous persons from the Americas.

The first edition of Star Trek Encyclopedia listed this starship's registry as NCC-50446 and her class as Cheyenne-class. After her appearance in "The Pegasus", the 2nd edition of the encyclopedia changed the class, but retained the registry number.
