The USS Gorkon was a 24th century Federation Excelsior-class starship operated by Starfleet.
In late 2369, the Gorkon was Admiral Alynna Nechayev's flagship for the armada she assembled for a possible renewed Borg invasion that year. (TNG: "Descent")
According to the Star Trek Encyclopedia, the registry for the Gorkon was NCC-40512.
The Gorkon was named for the Klingon chancellor Gorkon. In early drafts of "Descent," this ship was named Valiant. It was Rick Berman who asked for a first-ever alien namesake for a Starfleet ship. (Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion)
If the Gorkon remained Nechayev's flagship following the Borg incursion, it was also possible that it was the ship later seen rendezvousing with the USS Enterprise-D in "Preemptive Strike", when Picard met with Nechayev to discuss possibly infiltrating the Maquis.
