Tachyon detection network activated

The USS Hermes (NCC-10386) was a Federation starship that was in service during the late 24th century.

In early 2368, the Hermes was docked at Starbase 234 for major repairs. It was prematurely launched to serve as part of the task force that blockaded the Klingon-Romulan border during the Klingon Civil War.

During the deployment of the tachyon detection grid, the Hermes was positioned near the center of the grid, and was directly linked with the USS Enterprise-D, USS Ajax, USS Goddard and USS Tian Nan Men. (TNG: "Redemption II")

Background

According to the Star Trek Encyclopedia the Hermes was an Antares-class starship. Its registry appeared in the Okudagram depicting ships deployed in the tachyon detection grid.

The name is presumably a tribute to Hermes, the ancient Greek messenger-god.
