The USS Honshu (NCC-60205) was a Federation Template:ShipClass starship that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century.

In 2374, the Honshu was responsible for transporting former Cardassian leader Dukat to stand trial for war crimes at Starbase 621. Captain Benjamin Sisko was also aboard and was scheduled to testify at the trial.

At approximately 1030 hours on the second day of the three day voyage, the ship was intercepted and destroyed by a wing of Cardassian destroyers. At least three of the starship's escape pods and a shuttlecraft managed to escape.

The USS Defiant and the USS Constellation were assigned to retrieve survivors. The Defiant recovered at least fifteen survivors, including Sisko. (DS9: "Waltz")

Background

The Honshu was named after the main island of Japan.

The interior corridors of the Honshu seen in "Waltz" appeared to be a re-use of the USS Defiant sets, while the brig was a re-use from Star Trek: Voyager and had previously been seen as Michael Eddington's starbase prison cell seen in "Blaze of Glory". No other Honshu interior locations were seen in the episode.

The interior of the type 6 shuttlecraft stolen by Dukat to escape the Honshu was used as a backdrop for his later appearances in "Wrongs Darker Than Death or Night" and "Tears of the Prophets".

The CGI Honshu was the first Nebula-class starship to clearly feature the new gold Starfleet insignia since its introduction on other ships such as the USS Defiant and the USS Voyager, as opposed to the red and white insignia previously seen on Nebula-class ships such as the USS Sutherland and the USS Farragut. The insignia can be seen on the warp nacelle pylon in the opening shot of the DS9 6th season episode "Waltz". However, the physical model of the USS Leeds, featured in the later opening credits of Deep Space Nine, already had the newer markings. [1]
