There have been at least two Federation starships known to bear the name USS Hood.
USS Hood (NCC-1703)
The first starship Hood was a Constitution-class starship in service in the 23rd century. The Hood was part of the task force that participated in the disastrous tests of the M-5 computer in 2268. (TOS: "The Ultimate Computer")

The second starship Hood was an Excelsior-class starship in service in the 24th century, under the command of Captain Robert DeSoto.
The Hood was William T. Riker's assignment after he left the USS Potemkin some time after 2361. He served as her First Officer and Executive Officer and it is likely, that Riker's promotion to Commander took place aboard the Hood, too.
During that same year, probably together with Riker, Geordi La Forge also took a post on the Hood.
In the course of his duties on the Hood, Will Riker refused to allow Captain DeSoto to transport to the surface of Altair III for an away mission. Riker felt the mission was too dangerous to expose the ship's CO to such a risk.
In 2364, the Hood rendezvoused with the Enterprise-D in orbit of Deneb IV, to transfer crew and equipment, including the ship's new first officer, William Riker, CMO Beverly Crusher, Geordi La Forge as well as Admiral Leonard McCoy, who inspected the medical outfit of the Enterprise-D. In 2366 the Hood was dispatched to the Romulan Neutral Zone in order to counter a possible Romulan sneak attack emanating from a cloaked Romulan base on Nelvana III with the goal to retake the Neutral Zone. TNG ("The Defector")
A few months later the Hood was due to assist the USS Enterprise-D on a terraforming project on Browder IV. (TNG "Allegiance")
The Hood rendezvoused with the Enterprise again a couple of weeks later to drop off Tam Elbrun for the "Tin Man" mission. (TNG "Tin Man")
In 2367, The Hood underwent a major systems upgrade at Starbase 174. (Starship Mission Status)
The Hood was also part of Captain Jean-Luc Picard's task force in 2368 to blockade the Klingon - Romulan border in order to cut the Duras family from Romulan supplies. (TNG "Redemption, Part II")
The Hood fought in the Dominion War at the first Battle of Chin'toka in late 2374. (DS9: "Tears of the Prophets")
- The CGI model of the Hood was mistakingly labeled with the registry of the USS Lakota (NCC-42768).
In 2379, the USS Hood was part of Starfleet Battle Group Omega, a group of starships assigned to Sector 1045 near the Romulan Neutral Zone to intercept the Scimitar. (Star Trek: Nemesis)
