U.S.S. Kongo NCC-1710.
File:Enterprise11.jpg
Affiliation:Federation Starfleet
Class:Constitution-class
Launched:23rd century
Type:heavy cruiser
Status:Unknown

The U.S.S. Kongo was a heavy cruiser of the Constitution-class of Federation starship in the 23rd century. Kongo was proposed to participate in Operation Retrieve, a military extraction intended to rescue James T. Kirk and Leonard McCoy from the Klingon penal colony Rura Penthe in 2293. The mission was not mobilized, as the Federation president strictly forbade any such intervention for diplomatic reasons. This vessel is named for the Japanese battleship from World War II.

Appearances/References

Background

This vessel's existence and registry is not from dialogue, it was seen only on background artwork. No design was established for the Kongo, it was probably graphically represented by the outline of a movie era refit Constitution-class vessel. The name Kongo is often listed in TOS backstage materials as being a possible member of that starship design family.
