Background information

The Korolev was not mentioned in dialogue, but was listed on a display screen on the bridge set. While not official sources, both Last Unicorn Games and Decipher RPG supplements state that this vessel may be a Miranda-class starship.

It is unclear if this ship is related to the Korolev-class which was employed during the 2360s, though this ship is likely also named after the Soviet scientist and engineer Sergey Korolyov.

According to a ship listing included in the plans, and not seen in the extended cut of the movie, this ship was commanded by J. Downer, and the ship was located in Sector 21399. On a page seen in the movie, showing the relation of Starbase 24 to Rura Penthe, the Korolev was represented by the silhouette of a Constitution II-class heavy cruiser.

The ship's captain was named after the sixth movie's art production assistant John Downer. [1]
