The captain was played by Star Trek veteran J.G. Hertzler, who was credited as John Noah Hertzler. The Michael Jan Friedman novel Saratoga gives the name of the Vulcan captain as Saros, although the novelization of Emissary names him Storil.

Escape pod survivors

Several crewmembers and civilians survived the destruction of the Saratoga by using the escape pods. (DS9: "Emissary")

The flight controller of the Saratoga was a female Human ensign. She too died during the Battle of Wolf 359 in early 2367. (DS9: "Emissary")

The flight controller was played by Cassandra Byram; the character was identified in non-canon novelizations as Delaney.
