Ulysses Simpson Grant was a 19th century Human general who served as the commanding officer of the Union Armies during the American Civil War, a position granted to him by Abraham Lincoln. Grant would later go on to serve as the 18th President of the United States from 1869 to 1877.
During the 20th century, Grant's image would appear on the US $50 bill. (ENT: "Carbon Creek")
In 2269, while forced to fight a battle between "good and evil", a recreation of Lincoln told James T. Kirk that he had admirable qualities very much like those of General Grant. Grant, like Kirk, was known for his fondness of drinking whiskey. (TOS: "The Savage Curtain")
