The Captain of an Ankari ship

The Ankari are a spacefaring humanoid civilization in the Delta Quadrant. They have access to warp technology, but use a form of propulsion that is difficult for sensors to detect. They harbored a great respect for what they termed "spirits of good fortune", nucleogenic creatures from another realm, which they could summon and communicate with using a special round device.

The crew of the stranded USS Equinox encountered the Ankari sometime in 2371-72, who provided them with supplies and food. They also summoned the creatures in their sacred ritual to bless the Equinox's journey. The Equinox crew members were able to barter for one of the devices to summon the creatures themselves. Later, the USS Voyager sought out the Ankari for help in negotiating with the creatures, who were attacking them as a result of the Equinox crew's actions. (VOY: "Equinox, Part I", "Equinox, Part II")

At least one member of the Ankari species was seen in the audience of several Tsunkatse matches. (VOY: "Tsunkatse")

Ankari Captain

The Ankari Captain was contacted by Janeway in hopes that they could call off the attackes by the nucleogenic creatures. The Ankari Captain is afraid of Voyager and refuses to respond until Voyager traps them in a tractor beam. The captain tells Janeway that the creatures are attacking because they are killing them. Janeway tells him that it is not her but Equinox. The captain said he would contact the creatures but Janeway had to talk to them not him. He served as a translator between her and the creatures. (VOY: Equinox, Part II)

There is some confusion about the Ankari: It is stated that the Ankari were the race of beings who introduced the crew of the Equinox to the nucleogenic creatures, which allowed the ship to travel 10,000 light-years in two weeks, and possibly further. Yet in Part II, Janeway states that the Ankari are only 50 light-years behind them. One explanation could be that the race had colonized planets throughout the quadrant, even over that grand a distance.
