Sisko found that the wormhole aliens (the prophets) had no concept of linear time and thus considered his presence disruptive. He tried to explain the concepts of past, present, and future, via the memories of his life's history. He explained that Humans have choices and these choices shape what will happen.

An unnamed Prophet

The alien batter was one of the Prophets to whom Benjamin Sisko tried to explain what the concept of linear time was.

Sisko found that the wormhole aliens (the prophets) had no concept of linear time and thus considered his presence disruptive. He tried to explain the concepts of past, present, and future, via the memories of his life's history. He explained that Humans have choices and these choices shape what will happen.

He used baseball as an example, and the alien batter believed that this showed that Humans were adversarial and aggressive. He explained that it was a game. (DS9: "Emissary")

The Alien Batter was played by Kevin McDermott.
In an early draft of the script, the character was to have been Ty Cobb, although this was changed to being an unnamed Chicago Cubs batter to avoid rights payments. The novelization of "Emissary" retained the batter as being Cobb. (The Making of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine)

(DS9: "Accession")
