Cities and States in Storm Front Edit

Does the rationale that apply to countries and cities in "The Cage" apply to the articles for cities and states in "Storm Front"? Are they open to deletion?Lakenheath72 (talk) 10:31, February 7, 2015 (UTC)

Not necessarily, since as far as I know that map was created specifically for those episodes. - Archduk3 15:42, February 7, 2015 (UTC)
For what it's worth, it was definitely made specifically for the episode: [1] -- Capricorn (talk) 19:36, February 7, 2015 (UTC)

Qwizards: Star TrekEdit

Hey there! We're starting to get things ready for the Trek 50th Anniversary, and we're looking for fans of the franchise that might be interested in participating in a Star Trek-themed Qwizards, Wikia's original quiz show! As an active admin on this community, I was wondering if you had any interest in participating in Qwizards: Star Trek? If you're not sure what Qwizards is, this landing page will give you a bit more information. This would probably happen around August, so let me know what you think! Hello! Just checking in to make sure you saw this :) Grace @Wikia (profile)•(talk) 16:11, March 13, 2015 (UTC)

lst parser?Edit

Hi,

I tried to implement this on Serbian version of Memory Aplha, but it's not working. Any idea why? You can see it here: http://sr.memory-alpha.org/wiki/%D0%9F%D0%BE%D1%80%D1%82%D0%B0%D0%BB:%D0%9F%D0%BE%D1%87%D0%B5%D1%82%D0%BD%D0%B0/%D0%9F%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%B5%D0%BB%D0%B8/%D0%9F%D1%80%D0%B5%D0%BC%D0%B8%D1%98%D0%B5%D1%80%D0%B5

It seems that the extension isn't turned on for sr, so you would have to contact wikia to do that, or do what I did, and ask sulfur to contact them for you, since he has faster methods than using Special:Contact. - Archduk3 19:34, March 28, 2015 (UTC)
OK, thanks! --Igor871 (talk) 23:16, March 28, 2015 (UTC)

Timeline issuesEdit

Call me suspicious but is there some sort of concerted effort to get us to exclude the new films from MA or otherwise change how we treat them? There probably isn't but it just seems odd that I have seen several posts about this in the last day or so. Could even be the same person for all I know. 31dot (talk) 16:48, March 31, 2015 (UTC)

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. -- Renegade54 (talk) 16:59, March 31, 2015 (UTC)
If so, not obviously so. -- sulfur (talk) 17:11, March 31, 2015 (UTC)
It would not surprise me to learn that this is a concentrated effort, though these things do tend to happen in waves. - Archduk3 21:34, March 31, 2015 (UTC)

The situation Edit

I am like Charles Evans on the good ship Enterprise. Well, I am like him and not like him. I am like him as I am isolated and haven't learned how to live in the world of people. I am not like him in that I don't have his powers and that I have placed a value on life. A high value. I have reached the point where he and I are saying, Everything I do or say is wrong. I'm in the way, I don't know the rules, and when I learn something and try to do it, suddenly I'm wrong! I felt rage - the rage that is common to Autistics yesterday night. I have learned how to control that rage to my benefit and when not to use it.

Communication is a struggle for everyone. I have come to learn that people live in "bubbles". Communication is so easy when the people you are communicating with are in the same "bubble" as you are. When a person speaks to you, who is not in your "bubble", you don't understand them. In so many ways, they are alien to you. I have read over and over again how a failure to understand the other has led to misunderstanding and to conflict. You are the Roman, I am the barbarian. Or is it the other way around? What does it matter? My world is as alien to you as your world is alien to me.

When I do attempt to communicate why I do an edit, I am constantly told many negative things about how I write. I have read that I don't communicate clearly, that I am incoherent and rambling, that the pathways of my thinking are poorly laid out. One person has even stated that my posts are unreadable and refuses to read them. People can identify me in the way I write. I believe this has created a bias - a bias that they might not be aware of. I might not be attuned to the nuances of neurotypical behavior; however, I can feel when someone is negative to me. Any creature of sufficient awareness can detect negativity from another creature. It's in the way that you write. It's in the way that you phrase sentences.

I have to read your words for us to communicate. The experience is excruciating. It's like walking through a dense forest at night with only the light of the Moon as my only companion.

Although I would like to continue to be an editor, the truth of the matter is that there will always be misunderstanding and conflict. I can adapt to a small degree; however, for me to able to communicate like you and the other neurotypicals, well, that's impossible. We are biochemical computers (genes) with programmed software (epigenetics). For me to communicate in a way that is not alien to you, that would require a reprogramming. This is a skill far beyond our current science and technology.Lakenheath72 (talk) 12:42, April 2, 2015 (UTC)

Old new pages Edit

I figured you might be the most likely to know this: Is there any way to get a list of new pages that goes back further then the last 500? I figure it might be advisable reviewing some mid-2014 creations in light of this. -- Capricorn (talk) 05:38, April 6, 2015 (UTC)

Not that I'm aware of. sulfur might have a solution either in the form of a wikia-wide system tool or with his bot, which might be able to create a list, but I'm not really sure of either of those. If you're looking for pages made just by Throwback from around then, his contributions page can narrow it down enough that a word search for "New page" in the list should find most of them. The list does include the "N" mark for a new page as well, in case the default edit summary was cleared for some reason. - Archduk3 06:11, April 6, 2015 (UTC)

That's ok, in lieu of extending the new pages page, I guess I'll just manually go over throwback's edits (I'm much too anal to search for "new page" and risk missing one or two anyway :D) Let's cross our collective fingers I don't come back with 50 merge proposals -- Capricorn (talk) 08:30, April 6, 2015 (UTC)

Throw/Laken/tram Edit

Did we know Throwback was Airtram3? I don't recall that coming up before. 31dot (talk) 21:50, April 11, 2015 (UTC)

I hadn't, but his IP address did take responsibility for Airtram3's edits here, and the editing pattern does fit. - Archduk3 22:08, April 11, 2015 (UTC)
Two comments: 1) Wow. Just... wow. And 2) Thanks for pulling it all together; my head was gonna explode if I had to mess with it any more. -- Renegade54 (talk) 00:17, April 12, 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, it's a bit hard to follow. That said, I'm really, really not happy with what happened today. I didn't get into this to "punish" people for being different. - Archduk3 00:28, April 12, 2015 (UTC)
No, me either. And it's not like I'm unfamiliar with Aspergers... my stepdaughter is an Aspie, so I have years of first-hand experience in dealing with it. Others here may have direct experience as well. :( -- Renegade54 (talk) 01:24, April 12, 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, I know/have known several people too. And a shame what happened, he was a great editor in many ways, it was just collaborating that didn't go well. I think you handled this as good as can be given the circumstances, Archduk3. As for myself, I keep wondering if I didn't fan the flames. In the end I think you can't keep from confronting genuine issues, but I wished I had used gentler language at times. - Capricorn (talk) 07:39, April 12, 2015 (UTC)
Let me tell you that I also think you all handled this very well. I will also miss his contributions. He basically single-handedly added all the new stuff from the remastered TNG display graphics, which was great! But I've also followed all the discussions in the last few years. You've tried over and over again to make this work, explain everything to him and tried to be very diplomatic - it just didn't work. He took a break, came back after a few months, tried his best to make this work again but after a few days, it was back to where it started. It was depressing waking up, checking the "recent changes" and seeing that the discussions were still going on and had reached a more disturbing level, that and the recent changes were cluttered with minor edits of all the planets beginning with an "A" every few days. I hope we can get back to doing our work instead of explaining why and how we do it. --Jörg (talk) 08:36, April 12, 2015 (UTC)

I also know people with Asperger's and I also think this was handled about as well as it could be. It is unfortunate. This username was the third time he came back; I wonder if he will again. 31dot (talk) 13:08, April 12, 2015 (UTC)

FA Review Restrictions Edit

Hey Archduk3, I was hoping I could get your thoughts on something. I'm hoping to become more involved in the FA review process by reading through articles and putting them up for review in an attempt to get through the backlog we have, but the current policy only allows for one nomination per person at any one time. I was wondering what you thought about maybe lifting that restriction on FA reviews only? Since they are already FAs and have passed that process, I was hoping we could reconsider perhaps increasing the number of simultaneous articles to maybe three at any one time? It would help to get through the backlog quicker than having just one a week (or sometimes one every 2-3 weeks). At that rate it would take forever. I look forward to hearing what you have to say. --| TrekFan Open a channel 16:34, April 22, 2015 (UTC)

Two things:
  • There is no backlog anymore. There are "old" FAs, which should be reviewed, but don't have to be.
  • "An archivist may start more than one review, provided that the overall number of concurrent reviews doesn't exceed five."
Where did you read that there could only be one review at a time? If there are still a few of those floating around they should be fixed. - Archduk3 20:26, April 22, 2015 (UTC)

Ah, OK then. I'm sure I read it somewhere. If I spot it again, I'll let you know. Thanks for that. --| TrekFan Open a channel 07:01, April 23, 2015 (UTC)

Avrand's edits Edit

Hey, Archduk3. I don't know if you've noticed but there's a raft of articles on the recent changes list where Avrand has added the sidebar in visual editor. While I'm sure he had the best of intentions, it has completely scrambled the sidebar template code. Could you try having a word with him and if necessary consider a block? Many thanks. --| TrekFan Open a channel 17:58, April 27, 2015 (UTC)

He's been using the VisualEditor, which is not kind to keeping the formatting consistent to what we're used to, including that of the templates. The only real solution is to not use the VisualEditor. -- Renegade54 (talk) 18:38, April 27, 2015 (UTC)

Yeah, but he doesn't seem to realize that which is my point. We keep telling him not to use it as it screws things up but he continues to do it. --| TrekFan Open a channel 07:01, April 28, 2015 (UTC)

Zibalia Edit

I'm watching the episode right now. Fajo's line is: "Perhaps you would not judge me so harshly if you knew of my desperate youth, wasted, wasted on the streets of Zibalia." -- UncertainError (talk) 22:49, May 8, 2015 (UTC)

How is that identified as the planet over just a city on the planet? - Archduk3 22:53, May 8, 2015 (UTC)

Zibalians come from the planet Zibalia. Seems common sense, no? -- UncertainError (talk) 22:55, May 8, 2015 (UTC)

Except we have the other reference to a different name that is explicitly labeled as the planet, and that line isn't in the script, so we don't know what it is, or even how it should be spelled, since the transcript uses "Zimballia". - Archduk3 23:03, May 8, 2015 (UTC)

Well the term is in dialogue, which means it's canonically where Fajo's from and thus should be on this wiki somewhere. I'll let you decide where or to just ignore it. -- UncertainError (talk) 23:06, May 8, 2015 (UTC)

Oh it should have a page, it just shouldn't have the Theta Zibal II‎ page. The captions should be checked to see what spelling they went with since there doesn't seem to be anything either way online. - Archduk3 23:11, May 8, 2015 (UTC)

Heads up Edit

Hey... just wanted to make sure you saw this... -- Renegade54 (talk) 13:36, May 20, 2015 (UTC)

Category suggestion Edit

Hey. Do you have any further interest in this discussion. Looks like it needs some work? Tom (talk) 13:32, June 27, 2015 (UTC)

Yes, but this is part of the "everybody agrees we should but nobody wants to do" effort to change how we handle collectibles as a whole. It's on my list of things to do, but it's not at the top right now, because it's going to be a time sink. - Archduk3 16:22, June 27, 2015 (UTC)

Why? Edit

Sooo... why are people using nCwiki rather than NCwiki? I guess I don't understand what the point is. -- Renegade54 (talk) 00:56, July 4, 2015 (UTC)

People? One person. Because he likes to make the first character of _all_ templates a small letter. MB is full of that crap. -- sulfur (talk) 02:19, July 4, 2015 (UTC)
