Virtual display devices are wearable headmounted display devices which are used in Jem'Hadar attack ships .

Where the Federation uses a viewscreen in their Starships to view the space in front of their ship and for visual communications, the Jem'Hadar attack ship uses a headmounted display device.

This virtual display device, also known as a headset, gives the wearer the ability to view the space around the ship by simply turning his head.

The headset itself is designed to be worn by Vorta and Jem'Hadar, if worn by other species there might be some side-effects. Humans experience at least one side-effect, they get a headache after wearing the headset to long. Cardassians seem to have no problem wearing the headset. This might be because Cardassian physiology is more compatible with the Vorta or Jem'Hadar.

Virtual display devices are portable devices used aboard Dominion warships, which substitute for the viewscreens found aboard most starships. There are two models: a compact headset and a larger shoulder-mounted version. Dominion ships are normally equipped with only two display devices: one for the Vorta commander and the other for the Jem'Hadar First.

The virtual display device gives the wearer the ability to view the space around the ship by simply turning his head (or as Elim Garak said, "It's like having a viewscreen inside your brain").

The device itself is designed to be worn by Vorta and Jem'Hadar; when worn by other species, there may be some side effects. Headaches are one symptom experienced by Humans after wearing the device for an extended period. Cardassians seem to have no problem wearing the headset. This might be because Cardassian physiology is more compatible with the Vorta or Jem'Hadar. (DS9: "The Ship", "Call to Arms", "A Time to Stand")
