For the similarly named medical device used by the blind, please see VISOR.

A visor, also known as an eyeshade, was a type of transparent surface that protected the eyes.

Depending on the type, visors could be worn as headgear or eyewear. Some visors were used in ground vehicles to keep sunlight out of one's eyes while driving.

In 1986, a female jogger visiting Golden Gate Park wore a sports visor. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)

In January 2154, a visor was worn by Doctor Phlox while he was autopsying an adult Xindi-Insectoid corpse. (ENT: "Hatchery")

In the final draft script of "Hatchery", this visor was referred to as consisting of Plexiglass.

In 2268, a specially-designed visor was used to shield the eyes of humanoids who might have looked upon Medusans in order to prevent the insanity that would have otherwise resulted from their hideous appearance. It proved to be especially effective for individuals of Vulcan heritage, such as Commander Spock. Miranda Jones wore one as well, to hide the fact that she was blind and could not see Ambassador Kollos. (TOS: "Is There in Truth No Beauty?") In the 24th century, a band of Kazon traders wore Medusan visors when they ambushed a group of Medusan explorers, one of whom they managed to capture in a cargo container. (PRO: "Preludes")

The Troglyte miners on Ardana also wore special visors for unknown reasons that may have been related to their harsh work environment in the Zenite mines. (TOS: "The Cloud Minders")

Certain poker players wore transparent green eyeshades, which were also called visors. Lieutenant Commander Data regularly wore one of these during his poker games with the senior staff of the USS Enterprise-D. (TNG: "Cause And Effect", "Descent", "All Good Things...") Additionally, Dr. T'Ana wore a visor of this type during a poker game on the USS Cerritos in 2380. (LD: "Moist Vessel")
