Walter Jack Gotell (15 March 1924 – 5 May 1997; age 73) was an actor who portrayed Kurt Mandl in the 1988 Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Home Soil".
Born in Bonn, Germany, his most famous role was the part of General Gogol, the head of the KGB, in six films of the James Bond film series from 1977 to 1987. Gotell also played a supporting role in the 1984 miniseries The Scarlet and the Black as SS General Max Helm. The film starred Christopher Plummer in the lead role as SS Lieutenant Colonel Herbert Kappler.
Gotell also played a German officer in the World War II film The Guns of Navarone (with James Darren), and ex-Nazi scientist Victor Klemper in the episode "The Blessing Way" of The X-Files (with John Neville).
Gotell passed away from cancer in 1997 in London. [1]
