A warp signature is a change made to an area of space by the passage of a ship at warp, that is detectable by sensors. The signature can be used to determine the recent presence of a ship, and often also its identity if the signature matches one in a known database.

In 2373, Benjamin Sisko and Michael Eddington evaded several Dominion ships in the Badlands by dissipating their runabout's warp signature on a plasma filament. (DS9: "Blaze of Glory")

In 2374, Gelnon's Jem'Hadar fighter used a subspace compression anomaly being investigated by the USS Defiant to obscure its warp signature, allowing a surprise attack. (DS9: "One Little Ship")

Later that year, during the First Battle of Chin'toka, the Defiant was able to imprint a Federation warp signature on a Cardassian subspace power generator, causing the orbital weapon platforms to fire on their own power source. (DS9: "Tears of the Prophets")

The warships of the Hirogen show a characteristic dicyclic warp signature. (VOY: "Prey")

In late 2377, the Doctor played The Blue Danube waltz in one of his recitals. When he and Captain Janeway were abducted by renegades from the Hierarchy, the doctor altered a recording of the waltz so that it would sound out of tune. By perfoming a Fourier analysis, Seven of Nine found that the Doctor had modified harmonics of the piece to imitate a warp signature, allowing Voyager to track their captors' ship. (VOY: "Renaissance Man")
