Background
The Wells-class is possibly named after noted science fiction author H.G. Wells, author of The Time Machine.
Model
The design for this CGI model has clearly departed the rather standard saucer and nacelle layout of 24th century starship. Unlike the Template:ShipClass ships, consisting of a saucer section and body with two warp nacelles, this vessel appears to follow a more streamlined in shape, much like the Template:ShipClass starships.
Based on visual examination of the model, it appears that there are several weapons mounts and one large mount located in the nose of the ship. It is possible that these are subatomic disruptors, as with the Aeon type, but this is never stated in the episode.

Within the Frontier novels, it is stated that the ship possesses an anti-proton beam in addition to phaser arrays.
